My guess is people have seen the news about the problems with the Olympic torch relay as it made its way through London and Paris. Every year in Budapest, they have a giant billboard competition, in which all sorts of posters are presented. (There are lots more photos of these in the private repository.) Some tend to be quite serious, some are hilarious, but I’ve always preferred the ones with biting social commentary. The above poster was on display in 2006. I think it’s more appropriate than ever.

I think all the protests in London and Paris (and lets hope San Francisco today) are great. Governments seem too sacred of China’s economy to make any real protests, but at least people are showing what they really think. Hope the PR disaster continues.

I believe the IOC is beginning to regret giving the Olympics to the Chinese, and it’s increasingly becoming a PR nightmare for them.

Well San Francisco was another triumph for the torch – running along an empty freeway, inside a warehouse – so it was kept away from protestors but also from the public who came to see it, the press who wanted pictures and well everyone…

This poster is indeed great. I too am having a lot of trouble with using Tiananmen Square to lite the torch and all the other “festivities” they will be holding there. I understand that they are trying to neutralize the square by using it for positive things, but if I was an athlete I would have to do a lot of soul searching about whether I would participate.
