Everything You Could Ever Want, Together At Last

The American Embassy’s Sziget Branch
I have no idea what the hell this was doing at the Sziget Fesztivál, but for some reason, the American embassy had a tent there. Odd…
Budapest’s Very Own “Riott” House
The West Hollywood Hyatt Hotel on the Sunset Strip is colloquially known as the Riot House due to all of the rock stars who’ve lived and partied there since the 1960s. It would appear that Budapest’s Mariott Hotel, one of the ugliest sights in the city, is trying the same although spelling it just slightly differently.
If You Think it Looks Dirty, You’re Dirty Minded
This is a rather strange and pink sculpture on the wall of the Kálvin tér underpass in central Budapest. I’m not going to say what it resembles, but if you thought what indeed you’re thinking, well you’re the perverted one, not me!
Standing in the Way of Progress
This building is in Budapest’s District VIII, invariably known as Nyócker or the shithole of the capital, and is one of the few remaining structures in the path of the Corvin Promenade, which seeks to regenerate the area so that it’s not a dump anymore. It’s literally just down the street from West Balkán’s current location.
I’m sort of torn in respect to this, because I don’t want to see these old building razed. At the same time, the area has become a hotspot for crime and poverty. While I don’t like the part about displacing the poor, I can’t really see much of an alternative for the area if it ever intends to shake its image as Budapest’s grittiest area.
How Not to Ogle Women in Public
When you go out and see a woman sunbathing topless, if you’re a guy, of course you’re going to look. I’m sure that’s part of why some women do it in the middle of a public park. What you don’t do, however, is what the guy in the photo is doing above. That’s just poor form, and ruins it for the rest of us, not to mention creepy.
To see what he was looking at, click on “keep reading,” but make sure your boss isn’t standing behind you.
Topless Sunbathing in Budapest
No, this is not some exclusive beach where I was taking shots with a camera hidden in a sack. I was standing on sidewalk of Margit Bridge, as these people were tanning on the southern, paved tip of Margit Island. What was funny, or sad now that I think about it, was that just before I took this picture, I saw people hiding behind posts or trees with telephoto lenses.
Thing is, none of the people bathing without their tops were even that hot, and it’s just so much easier to download stuff from the internet.
The New Replacing the Old in Nyócker at Night
I went with a friend to the latest incarnation of Budapest romkert West Balkán a couple weekends ago. Currently it’s in a temporary location that I think will be left as a playground for kids in the apartments currently being built in the area. This image lets you see the remnants of an old building on the bottom left, with a new building under construction across the street.
The picture was a 15 second exposure with a Canon SD1000. I can’t give more technical details, since the camera does it automatically, even when I’d rather it not. But I liked this photo.
Karl Marx is Not Dead…
…he’s just kicking it on Margit Island in Budapest these days.
