My take on the situation behind the Budapest Gay Pride March.
Attractive Politicians and Budapest’s Public Transport
I’ll admit to having written these:
- Tough economic times call for attractive national leaders
- Budapest Public Transport Planning Everything Must Go Fire Sale!
Some of the others maybe under duress. Maybe…
Pols, Foxes, a Quiz Show, & Viszlát Magyar Nyelvem!
I took this picture in the French Alps near Le Corbier and La Toussuire. If you want to see what the image looks like in non-HDR for comparison, check out the standard exposure version here.
As for this week’s posts I wrote for All Hungary, here they are.
Politics.hu:
- Respected British weekly’s country of origin mystifies leaders of the right
- János Kóka admits he’s unfit to lead Free Dems

Hummers (Not That Kind) and Crashing MiGs
I was at the intersection of Csalogány utca and Kapás utca looking east when I took the photos for this HDR shot. You can see part of the parliament building toward the back.
Last Friday, Pestiside was on strike, so I didn’t have a Friday post with what I wrote over at All Hungary. So, that’s why this post exists.

Pestiside.hu:
Slovaks, Negligent Homicide Charges and Scandal
No, this HDR image looking at Ferenciek tere from in front of the university library has nothing to do with the title, it’s just so I post something other than links. The opening scene of the film Underworld with Kate Beckinsale was shot here, as well as the descent into the metro where there’s a gun fight, which to anyone who’s actually caught the metro from there, was obviously substituted with a set for the film.
Today at Politics.hu:
- Prosecutor rejects negligent homicide charges against prime minister
- Slovak Nationalist Party removes Hungary from the map, claims poorer half
And this piece which will surely earn me an award:
Fascists, Mythical Heroes, and the Stilleto Run
So, today was mostly spent doing editing work, nonetheless, I’ve got these to link to.
Politics.hu
- Fidesz representative receives death threats for organizing anti-fascist protest
- Fidesz pol continues transition into mythical Hungarian hero, socialist friend
Pestiside.hu
Sauron’s Lair, Trabants and Death Graphics
So, basically what I think I’ll do from now on for the days when I’m not writing the thesis but articles for All Hungary is that I’ll just post links to those pieces. It’s better than me trying to come up with something funny for here, plus you can see what I did over there.
So, over at Politics.hu:

Some of What I’ve Written Elsewhere
Currently in addition to working on my thesis, I’m a senior editor for the All Hungary Media Group. While most of my work is editorial, such as making sure translations from Hungarian to English are actually that and not just Hunglish, I also write original material for three of All Hungary Media’s websites, Chew.hu, Politics.hu, and of course, Pestiside.hu.
Here’s a list of some of my finer contributions.
Chew.hu:
- Magyar Microwave: Hungarian Stuffed Peppers, Without the Peppers
- Small Hungarian Grocery Chains Choose God Over Customers
- Beware Friends Bearing Cans of Sausage Lentil Főzelék
- Magyar Microwave: Chili May be the Pick of Pick’s Ready-to-Eat Meals
- Regős Vendéglő Skips on the Musicians, Provides Good Affordable Meals Instead
- Magyar Microwave: The Tesco Meal Marathon
Politics.hu
- The undertaker is placing the final nail in the Free Democrats’ coffin
- Is Katalin Szili’s dissent a silly farce, or a genuine revolt in the making?
- The challenge for Fidesz will be to maintain their current pace
- Gyurcsány and Orbán make conciliatory gestures, albeit not to each other
I also regularly write the short blog posts there, but since those are meant to be subjective and generally just a piss take, I don’t attach my name to them.
Pestiside.hu:
- Catch Pneumonia While the Billboards Say You’re Going to Melt
- The Sad State of the ‘56 Memorial After Less than a Year
- Feeling Cocky, BKV to Raise Prices, Introduce Night Terrors
- Package Tour Hung-O-Rama: On the Bus from Budapest to Les Sybelles

- Facial Hair Key to Free Democrat Success
- You Have Less Than Twelve Hours to Rid Yourself of the Ft 1 and 2 Coins!
- Catching the Train to Budapest Airport Way More Difficult Than it Should Be
- Hungarian Tourist Board Reclaims Slovakia
I’ve written some other pieces for Pestiside too, but I wasn’t about to attach my name to some of those, not because they’re controversial, (at least not in most cases), it’s that they’re primarily just translations of other pieces.
